"The black ones, restless, little devils both,
Together look like Siamese, not loath.
You know, Alina, Pip and Nod today
Climbed to the attic, led astray
By Amedeu's invite, that cat with airs
Who struts about like he owns the stairs."
"Amedeu's a rascal, that is true,
But the little ones haven't a clue."
"He holds a mouse within his claw (poor thing, scared, without a flaw)
And tells the two, with great display,
A cat's true work, at end of day,
Is clearing yards of such as these—
The rodents who will chew with ease
On everything that crosses their path."
"Not bad at all, I'll do the math—
That furry Amedeu, today
A teacher, finds a useful way.
But what do those two black kits do?"
"They sniff so sweetly, through and through!
They gently smell the tiny mouse."
"They're diligent students in the house,
And they will learn, it would appear,
To guard the home from intruders near,
And rodents too, both far and near."
