Last summer, on a sunny morning, my cat, Fifi, came to me bringing something in her mouth. It was a golden necklace with a little red, heart-shaped gem.
— Meow! said the cat, raising her fluffy head and looking into my eyes.
— Hi, Fifi! What's that?
— Meow! said Fifi again, and very slowly, she set the necklace on the floor at my feet.
— Do you want me to wear it? I said, smiling. In that very moment, I put that beautiful necklace around my neck and I ran into my room to admire myself in the mirror. That little red gem was shining so beautifully and looked so good on my neck! I felt happy for the rest of the day, playing a lot of games with my sister and our pets—two dogs and, of course, Fifi.
Everything was just perfect on that perfect day, but something really strange happened soon after that.
Next morning, I woke up in a place where there were a lot of nicely colored balls around me, a ball of gray wool, and a lot of ribbons that were very similar to the toys my cat used to play with.
"Strange!" I said to myself and called for my mother.
— Meow!
What!? That "meow" came out of my mouth and then, looking at my arms, I noticed that they were covered with white, fluffy fur.
— Meow!
My voice sounded so different—so high-pitched and cattish. I was a cat! Looking around, I realized that the place I was trying to get familiar with was nothing else but under my own bed, where Fifi had gathered balls, ribbons, and other cat toys. Everything was unbelievable, but before panic could defeat me, I remembered the necklace. "Yes! The necklace has to be the real culprit for my transformation," I said to myself, and bowing my head, I let the necklace slide off my neck.
— Bia! Bia! Mom was looking for me.
— What are you doing under the bed? she said. Come and eat!
After all, I finally got my human shape back. Now, two months later, I am able to tell you my story and to consider a new try with that magical necklace.
Meow!
